Amazing Equine Disciplines!
The equestrian world is so incredible, horses are so versatile and clever that there is absolutely nothing that they can't master. There's a discipline for everyone, whether that be show jumping, games, reining or roping! We can all find our passions and make some incredible memories on the back of a horse.
One of our amazing ambassadors, Ruby, has shared what her favourite riding discipline has been so far in her equestrian journey.

Honestly I love every moment I spend on my horses no matter what discipline we’re doing. However my favourite would have to be jumping. I love the feeling of soaring over the jump, it’s almost like flying. And the sense of accomplishment after you set a new pb is second to none. My gelding, Varro, loves jumping which makes it way more fun. He jumps anything I ask him to and has so much scope! He’s still only learning after being a cow horse his whole life but I’m so proud of his progress. I don’t know if trail riding counts as a discipline as it would be one of my favourite things to do with my horses as well. I love exploring new places, jumping logs and having a good gallop across the paddock.

Currently the discipline I do is eventing. Honestly, I’ve only just transitioned from Western riding to English and I haven’t really started eventing yet but that’s what I’ll be doing this year. I even hope to compete later in the year. I love how the concentration and precision of dressage balances out the adrenaline and speed of jumping and cross country. You get to try a bit of everything which I think is so good for your riding skills and also the horse’s learning. I love dressage because it really feels like I need to work hard and concentrate on being in tune to the horse and getting them to move the way I want them to. It’s an amazing discipline as it looks so simple to any outsiders but when you try it you realise it’s anything but. It’s also the basis of most English disciplines and so good for both horse and rider so it’s my personal opinion that everyone should learn the basics.

A discipline that I’d love to try is endurance riding. I think it’s amazing that riders and horses can be fit enough to ride the distances that they do. And it must take plenty of skill to lower the horse’s heart rate at every checkpoint. One of my friends does endurance and I’m always in awe of her. Another reason I’d love to try endurance is that Varro is quite a fit horse with lots of energy and we often joke that he should do endurance because he would go all day. It’s always important to try new things and there are some amazing disciplines. So, I did a little bit of research before writing this and I found a few disciplines that you could research and maybe even try if you’re looking for something new: vaulting, mounted games, polo, driving, horse ball, reining, harness racing, barrel racing and many more.
