New Year Horse Goals!
Equestrians are driven, passionate and extremely fearless! But most importantly we savour every moment with our horses. Whether your goals are to do that competition you've been training so hard for, or just spending more quality time with your furry friend, there's always something to strive for!
Two of our fearless ambassadors, Tayla and Hattie have taken the time to share with us what their goals are for 2022 and a little bit about their horses!

This year I haven’t exactly set goals in case I don’t achieve them and feel as though I’m not good enough. I have things that I hope to achieve and if not then that’s okay. I have 2 horses that I compete in mainly show jumping but a little bit of everything every now and then. My hopes for Penny, my 14.2hh 11yr Welsh/Arab, is to compete up to 110cm show jumping and place at that height, I would also love to start off at 80cm eventing and move up to 95cm at the end of the year. One of my more wanted goals would be to be in the top 10 after dressage in eventing and finish on our dressage score at 95cm. I would love to improve our flatwork this year and get out to a couple of dressage days. I would also love to do a couple of Triathlons at 95cm this year. Goals I have for myself as a rider would be to relax more and get on top of my bad habits.
For my other horse Luci, a 4yr 16.1hh Clyde/tb/gypsy our main goal would just be to take it slow and have fun as she is only young. I would love to get her out show jumping at around 40-60cm this year and see how she copes as well as a few dressage days at preparatory level, and hopefully prelim at the end of the year. She’s not able to event yet as she is too young but by the end of the year I would like to get her out to a 45 event. Long term goals for my current horses would be 120cm show jumping, 95/1* eventing and equestrian in the park with Penny and for Luci long term if she enjoys her job jumping would be 120/130 show jumping, 2* eventing and medium dressage. All these goals aren’t set and if it doesn’t go to plan then that’s okay! For me long term I would love to go to the Olympics otherwise high level show jumping. These are my goals, short and long term goals for my riding journey and I hope to achieve them!

My goals for 2022 encounter a wide variety of subjects, these include my short-term goals for competing and training my long term goals and more. This year I hope to get out competing more and Focus on taking Lilo up the levels in both show jumping and dressage. I hope to start training at the higher levels again and keep building the bond between Lilo and I. Someone once told me “that the bond that you share with your horse is the structure of all your successes.”
My long-term competition goals for this year include, gradually moving up the levels in both dressage and show jumping. This year for jumping I hope to start competing up to 80cm and hopefully do our first 90cm. For dressage, I am mainly focusing on fine-tuning our dressage skills like gaining a consistent frame and start teaching Lilo flying changes and I would also really like to start doing novice tests towards the end of the year. For interschool I would also like to start doing some just showjumping days at the higher heights towards the end of this year. For pony club, I am hoping to finish the series at 75cm.
My short-term goals for this year for competing are to get out and get more confident at 70-75cm and really remember to get the right striding into the jumps, I really want to improve my position at the lower heights so that when I do start thinking about the higher levels I don’t have the wrong position. For dressage I really would like to focus on a consistent contact and keeping Lilo in a frame. I also am really aiming to make our transitions both upward and downward sharper, to do all of this will mean that gradually we will both be building up more muscle. I also really hope to start getting a more consistent score of 65 percent on my dressage test, but I have learnt over the past five years that I have been riding that things don’t just change overnight, it is a gradual process and you have to work towards it and put time into it.
This year is going to be a good one, I have got so many plans and exciting things coming up. I am also extremely excited to have the amazing opportunity to work with venture equestrian and help spread the word about their amazing, eco-friendly and great quality products, but as well as that I really enjoy creating content for them. I can’t wait for this year and to get back out and compete again very soon.
